It's so interesting what events can be the catalyst for spiritual awakening in our lives, along with the symbolism attached. Like you say, although your son's diagnosis was a shock - that trauma triggered something new and became the metamorphosis. Many remain anchored with the trauma so it's good you channeled it into something more positive.
